Recent Event News
3rd June 2011 Domestic Hot Water Using Three Forms of Energy by Jim Lugsden
Jim described his approach to improving his heating system with his main aims being to reduce the cost of heating and to use as many local free and "green" resources as he could.
His final installation included a gas fired condensing boiler, roof mounted solar heat collectors and a small wood burning stove in his kitchen. A lot of the non-standard fittings were made in his workshop. Most importantly, his final heating bill was reduced by at least 30%.
Future Club Meetings and Events
1st July 2011 - Construction Evening
The next meeting will be a team construction event. Each team will be provided with a circuit diagram, a bag of around 12 - 20 components, a piece of scrap printed circuit board and some basic tools. This is not a competitive event - the object is just to build each of the circuits in whatever form the team choses and make them work. `Dead bug' construction is probably the easiest method to use and no prizes will be awarded for the best finished item!
Each team will have a team leader and some test equipment will be provided to test each completed project. The target scenario is to spend the time before the tea break on construction and the time after doing whatever testing is required.
`Dead bug' construction is where components like ICs and transistors are mounted upside down just above the printed circuit board and the copper surface is used as a groundplane and one supply line. The other supply line consists of a piece of tinned copper wire supported on two decoupling capacitors. An example of this technique will be provided.
This is an opportunity for all members to try out their construction and circuit reading skills.
5th August 2011 - Summer Barbecue
All meetings for the remainder of this year are now organised.
Foundation Training Course 2011
Our next Foundation training course will take place on four Saturday mornings - 24th September, 1st Oct, 8th Oct and 15th Oct with the revision session and examination on 22nd Oct.
A copy of the Foundation Licence Now! book will be provided. If you would like to join this course please contact Bob on 01737 552170 or g3oou@aol.com or Victor on 020 8653 2946 or victor@jmail.co.uk.
